What are the differences between anti-slip strip and anti-slip tape?

When you search the internet you will come across many different products to make a good grip for your stair steps. We regularly receive questions about this from customors, who, because of all these offers, do not know what the best solution is for their stairs situation. We also hear very regularly that people don't understand the large price differences in anti-slip tapes.

Non-slip strip

These grooves have different widths ranging from 2 to 8 mm. An anti-slip strip is pressed into these ridges, such as the anti-slip strip of the Lamiwood brand, which sell this strip in 15-meter rolls and in separate lengths. A Dutch quality product that has been used by the stair maker for a long time.

This strip is more expensive than various other brands, but that has nothing to do with the quality of the composite materials. Many of these anti-slip strips come from China, the quality of which is questionable. There are also suppliers whose strips are made of almost pure rubber. These anti-slip strips do not have a long life, they discolor quickly, crack or are easily removed. In this regard, cheap is expensive! If you have more money available, buy a more expensive brand for more safety and a longer lifespan.

Non-slip tape

There is no difference compared to the non-slip tape types, many products are of poor quality and doubtful materials from far-off countries which make these tapes very cheap and will not make them last for long. The anti-slip tapes are available in many different qualities. I have already written an extensive blog article about this. There are different types suitable for different applications such as:

Non-slip tape for an outside situation.
Non-slip tape for wet areas.
Non-slip tape for small ladders and kitchen steps.
Non-slip for residential staircases and gallery staircases.

All these tapes have one thing in common and that is that there is an adhesive layer or layer of adhesive tape on the back, so that almost everyone can easily provide the stairs with this tape even if you are not super handy. This is in contrast to an anti-slip strip, because a ridge must always be made in the steps.

If you choose this, keep in mind that thin and/or narrow tapes are more difficult to stick in a nice straight line. If you are not super handy then a slightly wider tape, say about 25 mm, is a good alternative.

A non-slip tape is actually an adhesive tape in different widths on which a top layer has been applied, each top layer has a slightly different composition and is therefore more suitable for a different or special application.

Here too there are many quality differences in material and adhesive layers. Which therefore also has an influence on the pricing. The country where the tape is made also influences the pricing.

For example our anti-slip tape is produced in the Netherlands and is very strong due to the composition of the material and is 2 mm thick. While there are other tapes that are 0.3 mm thick. You also see his major differences here.
