Making stairs stiffer after the staircase renovation
Stair renovation is all the rage these days, you can make your old stairs beautiful again in a simple way with a transfer step. A few years ago there were only a few decors. But nowadays the range has become so much larger and the wood motifs have become so natural and almost indistinguishable from the real thing.
There are many different qualities on the market that you should pay attention to. You can distinguish between real wood and laminate and nowadays there is also a vinyl PVC version that is also less loud and makes the contact sounds less sound, because the laminate steps that are made of a very hard material have this something perceived as a disadvantage.

Real wood
Real wood usually consists of a thin layer of 2-4 mm oak that is glued to an underlayer. There are many quality differences in terms of thickness and defects in the wood. If you want error-free wood and an even color of the wood, the purchase of this is significantly higher. Be well informed about the thickness of this top layer. Also make sure that no sapwood has been processed (light spots). These colors are almost not. The oak top layer can then be finished with a color oil. There are many possible variations here.

Laminate flooring
Laminate consists of pressed wood and a paper layer with a coating. The cheaper DIY grades have a thin top coating that often gives a very smooth stair tread. The better qualities have a much harder core and a super strong top layer. (called HPL) This top layer is provided with a non-slip melamine coating. The price is therefore much higher and they usually give a 10 to 15 year warranty on this product. However, these stairs are often still too slippery to walk on with socks, for example. Children can fall badly because of this. Stair safety then needs attention.

PVC Stair Renovation
You can compare the PVC transfer steps as you used to have Novilon floor tarpaulin with a PVC plastic top layer of up to 2 mm thick, so very strong. A big advantage of this material is that if you drop a hard object, the damage is often very limited. With a laminate version, you run a much greater chance that a piece of the laminate will break off. This is because the top layer of laminate is very hard and resistant to wear, but the top layer is very thin and therefore vulnerable.
The top layer remains smooth with all materials. Of course you want to avoid climbing stairs with shoes to prevent wear and tear, you run the risk of slipping with your socks. It is then wise to look for good slippers or anti-slip socks, or to provide the stairs with an anti-slip profile that you can stick on this transfer step.
With this anti-slip stair strip you will quickly have the stairs stiff and safe again
Have you renovated the stairs and do you still find the steps too slippery? Then a new product has been on the market for a few years now, namely a non-slip stair tape with the property of a strip and has been specially developed for stair treads. The strip is made of a special PVC plastic for a very long life and can be applied by anyone, even if you are not very handy. The strip is available in 10 different decor colors in 2 lengths and composite sets for the very best result.
